Home Air Check sells mail-in indoor air quality tests for homes. It was developed by Onterris LLC (formerly Enthalpy Analytical), an air monitoring business working since 1992, and samples are analysed at its AIHA-LAP accredited laboratory in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan.
The kits test for volatile organic compounds (VOCs), mold volatile organic compounds (MVOCs) that indicate active mold growth, formaldehyde and tobacco smoke, with combination kits that add surface dust. Listed prices include the Formaldehyde Test at $205, the VOCs and Mold Test at $240, the Tobacco Smoke Test at $230 and a combined surface dust, VOCs, mold and formaldehyde kit at $495. Reports include a contamination index that points to likely sources such as gasoline, paint, adhesives or personal care products.
It suits homeowners and renters chasing a smell, checking after renovation, or looking into hidden mold. You collect an air sample over about two hours with the supplied device, mail the kit back, and the lab analyses it within five business days of receipt and emails the report. The tests do not cover radon, asbestos, lead, carbon monoxide, dust, pollen or mold spores. Prices are in US dollars.
