About St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, was founded by entertainer Danny Thomas and opened on February 4, 1962. It treats children with cancer and other life-threatening diseases and researches better treatments, regardless of race, ethnicity, beliefs or ability to pay. Public donations go to ALSAC (American Lebanese Syrian Associated Charities), the fundraising and awareness organization Thomas set up in 1957 to support the hospital, and the EIN shown here is ALSAC's.
Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food. ALSAC raises most of the money the hospital needs, and St. Jude says 82 cents of every dollar received has gone to treatment, research and future needs. The hospital shares its discoveries with doctors and scientists worldwide and works with the World Health Organization to improve childhood cancer survival globally.
