About PineTales
PineTales is a family-run pillow company based in Scottsdale, Arizona, that has specialized in buckwheat hull pillows since 2017. Its pillows follow the Japanese sobakawa tradition: a firm, moldable fill of buckwheat hulls that you can top up or take out through a zipper to set the height you want, with air moving through the hulls so the pillow doesn't trap heat.
The main line comes in three editions. The Platinum Edition has a dual-layer design with a soft bamboo cover over the hulls, the Signature Edition is the more traditional sobakawa with a cotton twill shell and Egyptian cotton cover, and the Elite Edition mixes buckwheat with latex for a softer, quieter feel. Beyond those there are millet hull pillows, knee pillows for side sleepers, travel and specialty pillows, and the Sedona Bell Rock Vortex pillow sold as an Arizona keepsake. The company also says it has planted more than 100,000 trees.
Shipping is free to the lower 48 states, and international orders go at a flat rate by country. The big thing to know before you buy is that all sales are final. PineTales doesn't take returns or exchanges on pillows, even unopened ones, though it replaces items that arrive damaged or have a manufacturing defect in the first two months.
