About The Chess Store
The Chess Store, Inc. is a US chess specialist founded in 1999, with its office and warehouse in Hillsboro, Oregon, a few miles outside Portland. It is best known for fine Staunton wood chess sets, including designs it sells exclusively.
The range runs from pieces in wood, plastic and metal, themed sets and full chess sets to boards in wood, vinyl roll-up, silicone and mousepad-style floppy versions. It also stocks chess clocks, chess computers, storage boxes and bags, and club and school supplies, with an outlet section and collections such as Italfama sets made in Italy, The Queen's Gambit range and a Vintage Collection. As an example of pricing, its Tournament Standard Staunton set with a walnut board and box is listed at $236.
It suits club and tournament players, schools buying in bulk, and anyone after a heirloom-quality wooden set as a gift. Prices are in US dollars, and orders over $100 ship free to the lower 48 states (not PO boxes), with discounted shipping below that. It's an online shop rather than a walk-in store; the phone line is open weekdays.
