About Mike
Mike founded Voucher Magpie as part of Digital Gnome, his small Welsh technology business, and is responsible for everything we publish. He built the site himself in Laravel, decides which stores we list, and sets the rules for where our codes come from and how they are checked.
He has spent his career in technology, working his way up from developer to team lead to running technology and information security for a regulated UK financial services business. Along the way he has built and looked after sites and systems in Laravel, Drupal and WordPress, from small business sites to platforms handling money and sensitive data.
Security is his specialism. He is an ISC2 CISSP, holds a degree in Computer Forensics & Systems Security from the University of South Wales, and has led organisations through ISO 27001 certification. That background shapes how Voucher Magpie works: we only list codes from the stores themselves, never copy other voucher sites, keep a record of where every code came from, and send every click through a tracked, checked link rather than anything we can't vouch for.
He started Voucher Magpie because voucher sites had become a wall of codes that don't work. The idea is simple: fewer codes, each one from the store itself, checked, and taken down when it stops working, with 50% of what we earn going to a charity you choose.
Away from work, he is the author of 2038 Digital Epochalypse, a book about the Year 2038 problem, and works with the Legacy Systems Foundation on making older systems ready for it. He holds a granted international patent and was a founding board member of DrupalCamp Bristol.
When he isn't at a keyboard he is usually swimming, cycling or running: he is currently training for Ironman Swansea.
