Compensair is an online service that claims compensation from airlines when a flight goes wrong. If you arrived more than three hours late, your flight was canceled, you were bumped or you missed a connection, you enter your flight and booking details and Compensair's software checks whether you're likely to be owed money. If you are, it prepares the paperwork, sends the claim to the airline and handles the back-and-forth, including court action through partners if the airline won't pay.
For US travelers it's most useful on trips to and from Europe. EU Regulation 261/2004 covers flights leaving the EU on any airline, and flights into the EU on a European airline, with up to €600 per passenger on long-haul routes. Compensair also handles claims under the UK's version of the rules, Turkey's passenger rights and Canada's Air Passenger Protection Regulations, which can matter if you connect through Toronto or Montreal. It says it has claimed from more than 150 airlines in 60 countries, charter flights included, and that its clients' average payout is €450.
The check is free and there's nothing to pay up front. If the claim succeeds, Compensair keeps a 35% success fee, and its payment policy allows a further 10% legal fee if it has to pay for lawyers, court fees or translations. If nothing is recovered, you pay nothing. Its listed business address is Kemp House on City Road in London, and support is online around the clock, including on WhatsApp, Messenger and Telegram.
