Brooklyn Delhi makes Indian pantry staples designed to get dinner on the table without a long list of spices. The range was developed by cookbook author Chitra Agrawal and covers three things: simmer sauces you pour over vegetables, tofu or chicken; achaar, the spicy, tangy condiments that go on just about anything; and chutneys. Newer additions include ready meals such as Chickpea Tikka Masala and Sweet Potato Coconut Dal at $7 each, and there are gift boxes, merch and a gift card too.

It suits busy home cooks who like big flavors, people who already love Indian food and want a shortcut, and anyone hunting for a food gift that isn't another box of chocolates.

The site is a good place to pick up ideas as well as jars. Its recipe suggestions use the condiments in unexpected places, such as pizza toast, masala tostadas and a spicy pasta alla vodka, and Chitra Agrawal's Vibrant India cookbook is sold alongside the sauces.
