Everywhere Chair started in 1990 as a family business selling homemade chairs at street festivals and craft shows, and moved online in 2000. It's now a woman-owned business, and the store says the owner may well answer the phone herself to help you pick the right size and fabric. The range runs to more than 80 chairs: director's chairs at table, counter and bar height, beach and camping chairs, bleacher seats, kids' chairs and a big selection of replacement covers, many made in the USA.

The Gold Medal chairs are the backbone of the director's chair range. The store describes them as made in the USA from Appalachian beech hardwood with mortise and tenon joints, a three-year frame warranty and a 350 lb weight capacity, and you can choose from all the available fabrics, which changes the price. If you want to go further, the Telescope World Famous model at $339.95 is made in the USA from solid North American hardwood with hand-shaped arms. For the beach, the RIO Basic Backpack Chair starts at $29.95 and the COPA 4 Position Aluminum Folding Backpack Chair at $53.95, both with personalization options.

The director's chairs come in table height (18 inches), counter height (24 inches) and bar height (30 inches), so measure your table or counter first. • Read the returns page: there's a 30-day guarantee, but some items shipped from the manufacturer carry a 15% restocking fee, as do returns without the original packaging.
