Klevgrand is a music software company run by musicians, producers and developers in Stockholm, Sweden, and it has been making plugins since 2015. Its catalog covers vocal processors, drum samplers, synths and keyboard instruments, sold as downloads for macOS and Windows (AU, VST3 and AAX), with many also available for iPad. Prices on the site are in US dollars.

It suits home producers and songwriters who want characterful tools that are quick to get going with, and anyone who'd rather try before buying: every plugin can be downloaded as a free demo, which is the full version with occasional audio dropouts.

The company's name comes from Klevgränd, the Stockholm alley where its founders moved into a basement in 2009 to make music and film together, and the software grew out of tools they needed for their own work. Installs, updates and license activations are handled by a free app, Klevgrand Helper, for macOS and Windows, so you sign in once and manage everything you own from one place. Several plugins, including Tomofon and Elpiano, also run on iPad as AUv3 plugins or standalone apps.

What's worth a look

These six give a good spread of what Klevgrand makes, from its newest vocal tool to its drum and keyboard instruments.

Altitude Harmony is the newest release. It tunes your vocal and stacks up to three harmony voices above or below it, and it's built on the bigger Altitude, a full vocal performance station with pitch correction, harmonies and MIDI control at $149.99. On the drum side, OneShot2 is a drum sampler focused on dynamics and realism at $199.99, and its expansion packs add new kits.

Current offers

• Altitude Harmony intro sale: $29.99, down from $49.99.
• Big Room drum expansion free for OneShot2 owners. Big Room is a raw, bold drum kit with 18 presets and 1,536 samples. If you already own OneShot2 it's waiting in your account, and new OneShot2 buyers get it included. On its own it's listed at $49.99 and needs a OneShot2 license. Klevgrand pitches it at anything from rock and indie to hip hop.

How to save more

• Use rent-to-own on the bigger plugins. Altitude is $9.99 a month for 15 months and OneShot2 is $9.99 a month for 20 months, and the license is yours to keep once all payments are made.
• Price up a bundle if you want several plugins. Klevgrand sells an Everything Bundle with its whole plugin catalog, plus smaller instrument and percussion bundles.
• Run the free demo in your own projects first, so you only pay for the tools that earn their place.
