Vrooem: compare car rentals abroad, with a free travel eSIM

Vrooem is a car rental comparison and booking site run by Fullbrandz, a trade name of Multigreen Group BV in Wommelgem, Belgium. You search a pickup location and dates, and it lists offers from local rental companies alongside the big international brands. Each offer shows the price for the whole rental period plus the rental company's own fuel, deposit and cancellation conditions before you book.

The way you pay is a little different from US rental sites: you pay up to 15% online and the rest at the rental desk when you pick up, and the split is shown before you pay. Its help assistant works in English, Dutch, French, Spanish and Arabic. It suits Americans renting a car on a trip to Europe, Morocco, Turkey or the Middle East, where Vrooem's coverage is strongest.

What's worth a look

Vrooem's prices depend on your dates, so here are six of its destination guides instead, each covering pickups, deposits and routes.

The Malta guide covers the walk to the airport rental office, deposit and card rules, driving on the left, Valletta and the Gozo ferry. The Iceland page is a practical read for a first trip: a 2WD economy car is fine for the paved Ring Road in summer, but you need a true 4x4 for winter and for the highland F-roads, where the law requires one.

In Spain, the Seville guide points out that a car pays off mainly for day trips to Córdoba, Ronda and Cádiz, and the Valencia page suggests Albufera Natural Park and Xàtiva.

The homepage puts Dubai, Marrakech, Casablanca, Tangier, Bologna, Malaga and Rabat among its popular places, and the car rental abroad guides also cover Turkish airports like Antalya, Dalaman and Bodrum, including how the HGS toll system works. There's a separate business section, and you can create an account to manage bookings.

Current offers

Every Vrooem car rental booking comes with a free travel eSIM for mobile data at your destination, provided by esimzu.com. You set it up with a QR code, your own number stays active, and it works on eSIM-ready phones in more than 200 destinations. That can save you a daily roaming charge from your US carrier. There's no separate sale on right now.

How to save more

• Compare the conditions, not just the price. Vrooem shows each offer's fuel policy and deposit, and a full-to-full fuel policy or a lower deposit can matter as much as a cheaper daily rate.
• Check card rules before you go. Several guides, including Malta and Cyprus, explain the deposit and card rules at the desk.
• Use the eSIM. Activating the free eSIM before you land means maps and booking emails work at the rental desk without roaming fees.
