Welcome Home is a Brooklyn meal delivery company for new and expecting parents. It cooks gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free and seed oil-free meals with organic and non-GMO ingredients, packs them in compostable containers and freezes them. The menu changes every week. Meals are hand-delivered on Sundays in New York City and nearby New Jersey, and shipped fresh on Tuesdays to NY, NJ, CT, MA, RI, PA, MD, DE, VA, ME, VT, NH and DC. It suits families in the first weeks with a newborn, and friends or relatives looking for a practical gift.

What's worth a look

Plans come in Signature, Vegan or Chicken and Vegan versions, for three or five days, as a one-off order or a weekly subscription.

The Nourishment plan is the one the site marks as most popular. It's $350 for three days of breakfast, lunch and dinner (9 meals) or $475 for five days. If you'd like to try the food first, The Third Trimester One Day Trial is $115. The Soup & Snacks plan starts at $105 for three days.

Founder Mandela started Welcome Home after the birth of her first son, when she found it hard to eat well while looking after a newborn. Every meal is nutritionist-approved and leaves out gluten, dairy, soy, seed oils and refined sugar, so they can work for families with some common dietary needs. Check the menu for anything else you avoid. Some meals heat straight from frozen and others thaw overnight in the fridge, and every container has reheating instructions. The Build Your Own plan, from $250, lets you choose breakfast and lunch, breakfast and dinner, lunch and dinner, or dinner only. If your state isn't on the delivery list, the site asks you to email so it can check. Gift cards can be bought in any amount from $25 up to $1,000, and there's a small range of merch, from a $22 tee to a $55 hoodie.

Current offers

Welcome Home offers 15% off your first order when you sign up for texts, and the code arrives by text right away. That's the offer we have listed too. Plans are also 5% cheaper on a weekly subscription than as a one-off order: the Nourishment plan goes from $350 to $332.50, and Build Your Own from $250 to $237.50.

How to save more

• Start with the one-day trial or a three-day plan before you commit to weeks of meals, then switch to a subscription for the 5% saving. Subscriptions can be paused or canceled.
• Order by Friday for the following week's delivery. Refunds are only possible within 72 hours of ordering and before the delivery date.
• For a baby shower, set up a Modern Meal Train: everyone chips in with gift cards from $25, and the parents order meals when they're ready.
