E-file.com is online tax preparation software from E-file.com LLC, a Florida company and authorised IRS e-file provider. It has been running since 2014 and says it has served more than a million filers. You create an account, answer questions about your year, and the software builds the return for you to e-file or print and mail.
There are three tiers. Free Federal covers single and married filing jointly returns with under $100,000 in wages, with free federal e-filing. Deluxe ($29.99 before discount) adds dependants, mortgage interest, retirement income and phone support. Premium ($49.99 before discount) adds itemised deductions, all credit schedules, business income and IRS audit assistance. State returns are charged separately for states with an income tax.
It suits US filers with straightforward to moderately complex returns who want a cheaper option than the big brands. You only pay when you upgrade from the free tier, so you can work through your return first. Phone support comes with Deluxe and Premium; free users use the in-account support tickets.
