iProVPN is a low-cost VPN service. It encrypts your connection, hides your IP address and lets you pick servers in other countries. The site lists 250+ servers in 36+ countries, including the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Japan and Germany, and one subscription covers 10 devices at once. It suits people who want basic privacy on public Wi-Fi, or a VPN for streaming on a Firestick, without paying for the big-name services.

What's worth a look

There are three plans, and the same apps and features come with all of them.

The longest plan, which iProVPN calls the 4 + 1 Year Free VPN, is billed at $39.60 for five years, about $0.66 a month. The 1 Year Plan is billed at $20 a year and the 1 Month Plan at $6 a month. Every plan includes a password manager, an ad blocker, a kill switch, split tunneling and WireGuard support. You can add devices beyond the 10 for $4 each, or pay $10 for unlimited logins.

Apps cover Windows, Mac, iPhone, Android, Linux, Chrome and Firefox, Amazon Firestick, Roku, Xbox and routers, so you can protect a smart TV or games console as well as your laptop. Setting it up on your router covers every device on your home Wi-Fi at once. Security features include AES 256-bit encryption, DNS and IP leak protection, a no-logs policy, Double VPN and P2P servers. Help comes through live chat and email, with setup guides and FAQs on the support site. iProVPN's own pages use phrases like "best VPN", so treat those as marketing and use the money-back window to judge speed and reliability on your own connection. Payment is by PayPal or card, and there's a box for a coupon code at checkout.

Current offers

Our current offer is the one on iProVPN's own site: pay for four years and get a fifth year free. That's the $39.60 five-year plan above. The homepage frames it as a holiday deal with a countdown timer. Like all iProVPN plans, it comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee.

How to save more

• Work out the cost per month. Over five years the long plan costs less than seven months of the monthly plan, but you pay it all up front, so only take it if you're happy to commit.
• Use the 30-day money-back guarantee as a trial. Install the apps on the devices you'll actually use, test the streaming and speeds you need, and ask for a refund within 30 days if it doesn't suit you.
• Skip the add-ons unless you need them. Ten simultaneous devices already covers most households.
