LUXE NOIR makes steel-boned corsets, corset dresses, skirts and corset tops, plus a smaller menswear range of waistcoats and men's corsets. It was founded by designer Suman Bharti, who started making custom corsets in a one-machine workshop in Gurgaon, India, in 2005. The brand was previously called CorsetDeal, and the founder's page says it now runs an ISO 9001-certified factory. The styles lean gothic, steampunk, Victorian and Rococo. It suits costume and cosplay fans, people who go to festivals and themed events, and anyone after a structured statement piece.

Orders ship from the brand's own factory in India. Shipping is free worldwide, and prices are in US dollars with import duties, customs charges and taxes already included, so nothing extra is due on delivery. There's only one delivery speed, standard tracked, which the site estimates at 10 to 15 business days for the US. Order Halloween or event outfits well ahead.

What's worth a look

Here are six pieces from the corset, dress and menswear ranges, with today's starting prices.

Most pieces show a "from" price that goes up by a dollar or so for larger sizes. The ROSALYN Skull Busk Overbust Corset in maroon brocade starts at $149. The Anastasia Rococo corset dresses, here in midnight black, also start at $149. If you're new to corsets, the IVY Curvy Underbust in green brocade and black cotton starts at $99 and is the cheapest of the six. For men, the Klaus Steampunk embroidered waistcoat is $159 and the Asphodel overchest corset starts at $149.

Use the size guide before you order. Steel-boned pieces are sized by measurement, not by dress size.

For Halloween, the homepage groups pieces into a costume edit with six looks, including Vampire Countess, Coven Witch, Steampunk Aviator and Corpse Bride. Each one is built from corsets and skirts you can wear again afterwards. To finish an outfit, there are small brooches too, such as the Emerald Gaze Owl Brooch at $14.

How to save more

• Read the small print on 3 for 2 before you buy. The return policy says items bought under that offer are final sale. Normal orders can be returned within 30 days, unworn and with tags, but you pay the return postage.

• Exchanges for a different size are processed free of charge, so if you're between sizes, an exchange costs less than returning the corset and buying again.
