Makerfire is a radio-control hobby store selling RC cars and trucks from brands such as MJX Hyper Go, Traction Hobby, JJRC, UDIRC, WLtoys, HNR and FMS, along with RC planes and helicopters, FPV racing drones, goggles and a big parts section. Prices are in US dollars. Some products ship from a US warehouse (US addresses only) and others from the company's warehouse in China, so it pays to check which one before you order. It suits hobbyists from first-time bashers to people building a 1/7-scale rally car.

What's worth a look

A mix of cars, a crawler, a plane and a drone, all with prices from their own product pages today.

For a first brushless truck, the JJRC C8803 is $99.99 with an aluminum alloy chassis and oil-filled shocks. At the other end, the MJX Hyper Go 7303 is a 1/7-scale officially licensed WRC C3 rally car with a sensored brushless motor, priced from $459.99 depending on whether you add a battery and charger; its page notes 3-5 day US delivery is available.

Beyond cars, Makerfire has a good spread of aircraft. The RC ERA C032 UH-1 Huey brushless helicopter and the WLtoys A310 aerobatic plane are both $119.99, the TOP RC Hobby C400 STOL trainer starts at $309.99, and at the top end the FLY WING Bell-412 V4 rescue helicopter starts at $929.99. The parts and tools sections cover car parts, FPV goggles, radios and receivers, flight controllers, motors and ESCs, batteries and chargers, and there's a range of LiteBee STEAM drones for learning.

How to save more

• Shop the US Stock collection for faster delivery and to avoid import charges: the shipping policy says customers pay any customs taxes, and that's more likely on parcels from China.
• Check what's in the box. Some models, like the Traction Hobby Ford Raptor, are sold without battery and charger, and options with them included cost more.
• Get your shipping address right before the order ships. Makerfire says it can't change addresses after dispatch, and parcels that can't be delivered are usually not returned.

Support is by email or WhatsApp, and the store says it will contact you within three working days if there's a problem with an order, cancelling it if you don't reply within two days.
