ROCKBROS is a cycling brand that grew out of its founder's 2,200 km ride from Sichuan to Tibet in 2007, and the idea that good gear shouldn't cost a fortune. Its US store, run by ROCKBROS USA in Elizabeth, New Jersey, sells almost everything a rider needs: bags and panniers, saddles, helmets, lights, mirrors, pumps, repair stands and tools, cycling clothing and winter gear, plus its own range of road, gravel, folding, mountain and kids' bikes. Prices are in US dollars, and in-stock items ship from a US warehouse in 3 to 4 business days.

It suits commuters, weekend riders and anyone who does their own maintenance at home and wants practical kit without paying big-brand prices.

What's worth a look

Here are six picks from across the range, from bikes to cold-weather kit.

The Gravis-Steel Folding Gravel Bike is the standout bike deal right now at $799.99, down from $1,299.99. For smaller budgets, the SKN Folding Bike is $299.99 and handy if you need to store a bike in an apartment or take it on transit. With winter coming, the windproof jacket and pants suit at $109.99 covers you top to bottom, and the store also sells balaclavas, merino caps and gloves on their own.

If you'd rather fix your own bike, look at the pannier bags and the home repair section, which has repair stands from $49.99 and specialist tools like a headset cup removal tool for $26.99.
