Roadtrippers is a road trip planner for the web and for iPhone and Android. Type in where you're starting and where you're heading, and it shows what's along the way: gas stations, places to stay, hiking trails, national parks and the quirky roadside attractions it calls Extraordinary Places, from Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo to the Blue Whale of Catoosa. Founded in Cincinnati in 2011 and now part of Roadpass Digital, it says more than 42 million trips have been planned with it. Its database covers the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

It suits anyone planning a long drive, from a weekend loop to a full Route 66 run, and it has a strong set of tools for RVers.

What's worth a look

There's a free plan and three paid tiers, and the top tier unlocks the RV features below. Prices are in US dollars.

The free plan is fine for trying it out, but one saved trip with three stops runs out fast. Basic at $35.99 a year raises that to three trips with 20 stops each and adds custom map styles and trip export. Pro adds trip collaboration and navigation, so you can plan with friends and follow directions in the app. Premium removes the limits on saved trips, allows 150 stops per trip and adds offline maps, live traffic and member deals.

For RVers, Premium is the one to look at. RV GPS takes your rig's height, weight and whether you carry propane, then routes you around low bridges and restricted roads, and it works with Apple CarPlay. The overnight RV parking layer lists more than 16,000 free places to park overnight.

Current offers

• We have a 20% discount on all Roadtrippers tiers. Check our codes box for details.
• Every paid plan starts with a 7-day free trial for eligible members.
• The free plan stays free, with 1 saved trip and up to 3 stops.

How to save more

• Pay yearly: Premium is $59.99 a year against $19.99 a month, so the annual plan costs about the same as three months.
• Use the 7-day trial to plan your whole route, then pick the cheapest tier that covers the number of stops you need.
• If you only drive a car, you don't need Premium's RV tools. Pro at $49.99 a year already includes navigation and collaboration.
